A Story About Fences

By Jim Falk

Speaking of naked and exposed, I am assuming that there is a possibility that these people are - in addition to the BIG fencing - fencing that surrounds the lower part of their personal property. Yeah? Why? Do they not trust their neighbors, which are dependent on the division of community safety? Maybe you are not certain that the fence is really BIG big enough to do its job? Or maybe they want the privacy of their personal enclosure that really allow them to be ... ahem ... Not so naked and exposed in the comfort of your garden.

So we use fences for security and privacy. OK, realizing the necessity of all semi-adherent seven points more than three seconds to clear each and every one of them may not be all that effective in eliminating mischievous marauders. But what the hell, if you feel better ...

Let's move onto the transition to a small town. Take a look at the fence. Looking around, I see some four feet fence in the chain of back yards. Since almost everyone has two to three feet fences, thinking for a few seconds I would guess they are not built for security. It is obvious that neither of them care for privacy. So, what is their purpose? Oh, c'mon, you know. This is to prevent children from chasing squirrels out into the street - and to maintain the dogs from roaming off the night carousing and barking at strangers that happen to walk by. Oh, there may or may not be a dog or child currently living in the household, but you can know with almost absolute certainty that it once was.

However, what happens if the fences are so high, stable, secure that the fence blocks off all traffic? Oh, you'll see a little here and there about some of the premises. That is about it. Except that on-site decorative picket fence or rail may be installed to add a split log rustic look of the property. Hmmm, interesting, right? It is interesting that people who live in this small town feel so safe. Secure in myself and the comfort that they really know and communicate with their neighbors (translation: "friends") - and with the knowledge that their neighbors care enough to actually watch all the property to make sure no one just " snoopin "around".

What about privacy? What is this? If you plan to be doing something that you do not want to see someone else, I guarantee you that you back up in the house drapes. Other than that, nobody really cares if the neighbors are watching them mow the lawn or work in the garden. This is perfectly acceptable, and even merits a wave or a short conclusions maple or on the porch. (Ya gotta take a break from the task once, you know.)

The only fences you will see in this neck of the woods are those which have been made to prevent livestock (which would be like horses, cows, goats and pigs for you city slickers) from wandering off to nearby property. This is only common sense thing to do. Moreover, if we expect to personally benefit from the neighbor Betty is a fantastic tomato crop next year, would be wise to our cows from trampling her garden! - 33393

Pruning Holly Starts When They Are Young

By Keith Markensen

Hollies will grow in full sun or partial shade, but will become spindly in dense shade. In windswept areas hollies should be planted in sheltered locations. Consider location carefully also from the standpoint of space. They grow slowly, and although they are small at first, they eventually become broad specimens. Since they will remain in the same location for many years they will benefit by thorough soil preparation. Heavy clay soil can be improved by the addition of sand and two to three bushels of leaf mold or peat moss, for plants three to four feet tall. Small hollies will not need that much humus immediately; more can be worked into the soil as the plants grow.

Potted or canned hollies may be planted at any time during the growing season. Balled and b u rl a pp ed plants transplant best in March and April, just before the new growth commences, and again in late summer and fall. Careful handling in the planting operation is imperative. A broken root ball may ruin the plant. At the time of planting, a depression should be left around each plant. This should be filled with water after planting, and repeated whenever the soil becomes dry during the first year.

Mulch each plant with oak leaves, peat moss mixed with old manure, wood chips or sawdust - to conserve moisture and protect the roots against rapid changes of temperature. A commercial fertilizer high in nitrogen should be spread around the hollies before wood chips or sawdust are applied. This counteracts the depletion of nitrogen from the soil in the initial breakdown of the chips and sawdust. Hollies will benefit from a feeding each February or March, if commercial fertilizers are used - or later when growth is active, if the liquid plant foods are used. A gardener is fortunate if he can apply an annual dressing of old manure which may be supplemented with cotton seed meal.

Hollies need to be shaped in their early years. Long, awkward shoots should be pruned; this work is best done in March before growth commences. Nipping back the tips of many of the branches will induce them to send out side branches to fill in the main body of the plant. If a plant is thin near the top and an ungainly leader has forged ahead, the appearance of the plant can be helped by tying one or two side branches in an upright position to fill in around the leader. And to clean the ground, it is helpful to use gas powered leaf blowers to lessen the work on cleaning the leaves.

When hollies grow older they usually begin suckering at the base. If some of these suckers are left to grow, a bushier plant will result. - 33393

How To Maintain Your Home Plumbing System ?

By Scott Rodgers

Maintaining the things of home will keep your home beautiful as well as functional. Plumbing system is one of the major and important part of your house. You need to well maintain the plumbing system of your house. Now we will talk about some key points that need to be checked at regular interval of time.

When you think of your plumbing system, you need to first realize the number of appliances and pipes that are included in the system. This includes plumbing system that operates toilets, sinks, showers, bathtubs as well as laundry facilities in your home for your washer, utility sinks and drains.

Water pressure is a thing by which you can determine whether your faucet or shower head is working fine or not. If the water pressure is less than before then it shows that there could be sediment deposit in your faucet or shower head. Problem in water line can also result in low water pressure.

Check drain of each sink, shower and tub for the speed of drainage. Slow drainage normally indicates a clog in the drain. When water is draining, if bubbles appear in it then it is a sign of some problem. To check all the faucets in your home, turn on all of them to see if there is any water coming out of the handles and valves.

Flushing in toilet consumes a lot of water so check properly that your flush system is working fine or not and also check it against any leakage. Open the tank and check all the parts inside it.

Loose, hollow or cracked tiles around the sink/shower point towards a leakage. Also check if the caulking of tub, shower and sink is proper or not because it can also cause leakage of water.

How to check the water heater? First of all check the flame of your heater. To clean the heater, remove all the sedimentation by draining it. It should be blue in color. If it has touch of yellow light then you need to clean the jet. Open the chamber of heater and check it, if you find some chips of rust there then it means it has rusted.

By running this checklist on an annual or bi-annual basis, you can check your home for plumbing problems or potential plumbing problems. If you will address these problems on a regular basis then you can prevent them from becoming worse. It will save money for you on the long run. Therefore, taking a few minutes to inspect your plumbing system is time well spent. - 33393

Pre Planning - The First Step !

By Scott Rodgers

Before taking up any plumbing project, you first have to decide about the pipe arrangement. Pipes are mostly covered behind the walls and usually people do not prefer changing their locations as it will add to the amount of work. Moreover it is much easier to install the new pipes in the same place as everything is already designed as per the requirements.

If there are some changes required for the new plumbing design, then it is better to run the pipes up from the basement. Like, you can get the bathroom drain line be dropped into the basement and then connected to the main line under the joists rather than running them over the floor joists.

Do not try to modify the floor joists or the support beams as this can be very dangerous and can weaken the entire building. The local building codes have to be followed for any issues with support beams. Here are some tips that can help you while taking up any plumbing remodeling project.

One option is to build a chase wall. It is a false wall that is used to hide plumbing connections. It can be used from floor to ceiling allowing plumbing to run from basement to attic. A wall chase is mostly used for running new vent stacks.

Besides a wall chase, you can go for another option and that is a soffit. Unlike a wall chase it runs across the top of a wall instead of running from floor to ceiling. So, the inner pipes can run vertically to accommodate new plumbing pipes.

Another place that can be used for running new plumbing in the home is an unused laundry. They often run through most of the floors, but usually end up in the basement area as it is easier to make connections there.

You can use a long pipe to check any plumbing routes. If the route is unobstructed, the guide pipe can be used for running plumbing pipes with larger diameter by placing the larger pipe over the guide pipe.

These are some possible ways to introduce a new plumbing scheme to your home. Keep the work to the open areas instead of switching to the dark areas behind the walls. Any uncertainty regarding the legitimacy of the plumbing design can be sorted out with the concerned officials to keep the things going. - 33393

What Are Corrugated Roofing Panels ?

By Scott Rodgers

Off late, the corrugated roofing has developed into a popular option among the roofing materials available in the market. The corrugated roofing finds its place in almost all structures varying from homes to office buildings.

Due to the fact that corrugated sheets offer more resistance to the direct attack of external agents such as air, water, sunlight etc, they are often prioritized by the homeowners and the roofers alike. Depending on the need and the financial constraints, one can select an appropriate design and type of corrugated panels.

In the earlier stages of development, the corrugated roofing panels comprised essentially of steel. As the time passed on, more compositions were introduced. At present, the market looks flooded with a variety of corrugated roofing sheets and panels. The corrugated panels can be divided into three basic categories.

The first and the most common type of corrugated panels are the basic round corrugated panels. They consist of short wave pattern that allows one panel to easily bind with the other. The second type is an alternating ridge panel. Such a corrugated panel is employed for enveloping the ridge area and the valleys. It takes into account alternating large and small-sized panels with a valley break in between.

The third type is quite similar to the first one. Instead of a round shape, they have a square shape and hence, they're known as corrugated square panels. These square-shaped panels are employed to build roof decking. They're installed in a manner that complements the strength of the roof in the best possible way.

The common composition for the corrugated panels involves the metals such as aluminum, copper and galvanized steel. Among the other materials, the plastic corrugated panels are available in the market as well. However, the plastic variant of corrugated roofing doesn't find its customers.

When it comes to the selection between the various metal corrugated roofing panels then the galvanized steel sheets win the bid. They're much more cost-effective than the copper and aluminum sheets.

During the snowfall or rainfall, these roofs prove quite effective as the ice, snow or water quickly flows down from the surface. - 33393

Simple Steps Of Repairing A Doorbell

By Scott Rodgers

Doorbell is the first thing that a person uses in your home to enter. If doorbell suddenly stops working or starts making odd sounds, it can be quite frustrating. In case your doorbell is not working properly then repairing or replacing a broken doorbell is not very difficult and a homeowner can easily do it.

With the help of a screwdriver, sandpaper, emery boards, electrical tape, multi tester, wire connectors, cotton swabs, some lighter fluid, rubbing alcohol and an old toothbrush you can easily repair your doorbell.

There could be a case that your door bell is not making any sound at all. In that case a possibility is that the bell button has gone out of order. Generally, during bad weather conditions the door bell switch goes out of order. Accumulation of dirt in switch also causes problems. For solving these problems, remove the cover of button and clean the switch with the help of fine grit sandpaper or an emery board. Connect back the door bell switch and try to ring the bell.

In case it does not start working then again open the screws of button and disconnect the wires. Touch the two ends of wire with each other, if bell starts ringing then you need to simply replace the switch as problem lies in switch only. Otherwise, the problem is in bell unit.

The doorbell may not be making sound because the wires may be loose at either the sound unit or at the transformer. So, check the wires at both ends by wrapping the wires in electrical tape if they are worn and tightening them if they have become loose. Also ensure that none of the wires are damaged and all the wires are connected to bell terminal.

One more case could be that your doorbell is producing low level or abnormal sound. In that case you need to check clappers or plungers in the door bell. Dirty or damaged clappers or plungers will generally produce a barely audible sound. Uncover the bell box and clean all the dust with a cotton swab dibbed in alcohol or an old tooth brush coated with lighter fluid.

If there is no problem in clapper or plunger then you need to examine rubber grommets. As hard or brittle rubber grommets produces no sound when pressed. Hence, if your rubber grommets has become like that then replace it with a new one. You can easily get rubber grommets from the market.

If more than one chime or bell is attached to a single transformer, the tones may be muted or too low in volume. In this case, replace your transformer with one that can handle more than one doorbell at a time and will help both doorbells ring clearly. - 33393

Chandelier Care. These are quite expensive so you need to take good care of it. A good cleaning once or twice a year is all that you need to maintain its shine and glossy look. Just make sure that whenever you want to clean them, turn off the lights off to prevent unnecessary harm. - 33393

Buying a Log Cabin Kit for your Garden

By Spencer Wilkins

If you are looking for help and information regarding log cabin kits the best place to find what you are looking for is by going online. As you will soon discover there are a number of different companies now around who all offer these types of kits and which can prove to be extremely cost effective.

As you will soon discover these kinds of kits have their logs cut, milled, dried and then shaped so that you have a much wider selection of cabin designs to choose from. There are some kits that are inexpensive because they only consist of the logs and fasteners which make up the buildings exterior walls. But there are others, which include all the necessary components to complete the interior of the house (make up the rooms inside) as well.

Although the thought of having a log cabin made by professional craftsmen sounds wonderful there are plenty of advantages to be gained from using those that come in kit form instead. The biggest one of these being that generally these kits cost far less to purchase and can be assembled far more quickly.

Another benefit of going for a log cabin kit is that you are not actually restricted on what shapes the logs are going to be. So although the external walls may be rounded if you want you can go for straight or bevelled ones instead. Plus every log quickly interlocks with the ones above and below as they already come with the tongue and groove joints in them. These joints are not only strong but will help to prevent either water or air from actually penetrating through them and so protecting whatever is to be found inside the property.

However, before you go out and purchase a log cabin kit there are some things which you need to consider and which can help to keep the costs of building such a home down. Below we look at just what some of these are.

1. The first that you need to decide upon is the size of the cabin and how many rooms that you want in it. If you can keep the size and number of rooms down as this will also help to keep your costs down. Plus keeping the size down also will help in the future with saving on the costs of heating, furnishing and maintaining the cabin.

2. Next you need to take into consideration how much the actual cost of assembling the kit is going to be. Remember you need to not only think about the cost of employing people to build the cabin, but also the cost of specialist equipment (cranes for example) that you will need to hire as well. If you do not use the right people or the right equipment then you will not be able to assemble the kit correctly.

3. Also if you can keep your design as simple as possible as the more complicated and intricate the design is the more you will have to pay. Although a cathedral ceiling may look nice it can add quite a lot on to the cost of the various log cabin kits that are available in relation to materials and labour. - 33393

You Get What You Pay for When Buying A Gun Safe

By Frank Froggatt

It isn't actually probable to utterly shield your home or your workplace from each and every break-in or theft. There are ways that we can affix an element of security for our valuables and that is by storing these objects in a safe. Safes can be used for two purposes, first of all, storing valuable items like jewelry, diamonds etc. and secondly, for storing, hazardous possessions or items like guns, chemicals, ammunition, etc.

When people are careless and leave their guns lying around loaded or with ammunition in the same place, accidental deaths can happen. Such accidents can be prevented, by keeping guns locked in a gun safe, away from hands of kids, thieves, and other unwanted people. By using a safe that is either fireproof or fire resistant, you can be assured that your heirlooms and collectibles firearms will be safe in the event of a fire.

Again, the size of the safe should be determined by the number of guns you possess, or are planning to purchase, and their sizes. When buying a safe, the bigger the safe you get as long as it is quality, the more you have to pay for it. The only reason somebody would look at buying a smaller gun safe is if they only own pistols. The shelves in such safes are easily removable and hence you can easily arrange the guns in whatever manner you like.

Some benefits of having a safe for the small is the fact that you can easily hide it so that the nobody knows about it or can see it. Safes for rifles and shotgun are bigger in size and are much more difficult to move, this is an added advantage, and provides a greater degree of security. Smaller safes should be drilled in the floor or the wall, if portability is not needed (in most cases it isn't).

Before you make a decision on buying a safe, you need to know how much you can afford - Better the quality of the material, or higher the degree of durability, more expensive will the safe be. The choice is entirely up to you on how much security you feel you need and what kind materials to your safe should be made out of, as you are the one paying for it. - 33393

Outdoor heaters include patio heaters, chimineas, and backyard pit fires. They have become so popular that furniture manufacturers are even making patio furniture and accessories to blend in with outdoor heaters. There are three types of heaters - table-top, free standing, or permanent.

If you want to be able to move your outdoor heater around, you should choose either a free standing type or a table-top type. But if you prefer to have the heater in a permanent position, then choose a permanent type. A heater that is permanently installed will provide lots of warmth.

Another benefit of a heater that is permanently installed is you don't have to keep filling the gas tank. With its fixed gas line, your permanent heater will carry on functioning as long as you want. An electric heater is a safe and convenient way of warming up your patio. What's really nice about an electric heater is that it will start producing warmth immediately - unlike some other heaters that take a while to warm up. This avoids you all having to sit shivering waiting for a heater producing warmth!

By Joy Harrison

Growing your own herbs in an Italian herb garden provides a huge amount of possibilities. Italy is home to some of the most delicious herbs in the world.

What are some popular Italian herbs?

Basil is a well know Italian herb and useful in many Italian recipes. Basil will not only add flavor to many Italian cuisines, it is useful in the garden to other plants. Planting basil next to your peppers and tomatoes will actually improve their flavor. Plus, basil will also repel flies and mosquitoes.

Parsley is a more difficult hard herb plant to grow but it's useful for many Italian dishes as well as many other types of cuisines. Many generations ago before their were breath mints it was found that eating fresh, raw parsley after a meal eliminated the bad breath left over from enjoying a flavorful cuisine. The tradition arose to serve parsley on a small dish after the meal. The tradition lives today by using parsley as a garnish on a variety of meals.

Oregano is as decorative as it is flavorful. When it is fully mature it will sprout pretty little purple flowers. Oregano should not be harvested until it has flowered because this is when the plant is most flavorful.

Fennel is used in cooking both with the plant and its seeds. Fennel seeds are popular in pizza and sausages, while the bulb is cooked as a vegetable and can make a wonderful side dish.

Rosemary is another herb, like basil, that is essential for every Italian herb garden. It can grow into a shrub and resembles and evergreen tree. Rosemary grows little blue flowers than attract bees. It's a tough perennial herb, but should be protected from frost. Rosemary has a strong flavor and fragrance, so you need very little for cooking. Try it in your roasted potatoes or meat dishes.

Probably the most used herb in Italian cuisines is garlic. No Italian herb garden would be complete without this useful herb. Garlic cloves can be planted and will thrive in just about any garden with very little attention. They can be stored to be used at a later time after they are harvested by freezing them or pickling them to store in the refrigerator.

Sage is the popular herb of Thanksgiving turkey, stuffing and gravies. Sage has a strong flavor, and like rosemary, only a little is needed to add flavor to your cooking. This herb is a good choice for your Italian herb garden because it is easy to grow and propagate into new plants.

There are many Italian herbs you can choose to plant in your garden, but I would start with these herbs because they are popular in cooking and easy to grow. A Discussion On Bathroom Furniture In The 21st Century

By Moe Kittaneh

Whether you redecorate or decorate your home for the first time, starting off with the bathroom is not only wise, but also necessary. Because the actual room is not that big, you can slowly let your creativity take hold when you are ready to choose bathroom furniture.

Can you remember how dull and dreary your grandparents or even great grandparents' bathrooms looked like. This was only because they used their bathrooms for functionality. Aesthetics didn't play a huge role in those days, purely because industry had not yet become creative enough. There just wasn't enough demand.

Once plumbing moved into our homes, things started looking much better for the old bathroom. When material like porcelain become abundant, the manufacturers of bathroom furniture finally realized that they can be much more creative with color and shapes.

With time, our bathrooms became bigger and fuller. Now we have a myriad of things to choose from; like beautifully crafted vanities, basins and bath tubs. With these new features, there also sprouted bidets, urinals and functional showers. Needless to say, with each piece of furniture there was also an accompanied set of accessories.

Let us look at the shower. Many years back it was a stall like structure with a curtain hanging on a rod which enclosed a small space on the bathroom floor. Water had to run into a outlet drain which caused many problems. Today it's not just a frame and glass, but to a bathroom's ambiance and personality it can play a huge role. Glass doors or shutters are stylishly crafted with patterns or prints covering the glass.

The cream-de-la-cream in bathrooms, is no doubt the bath tub. Here you can really express your inner desires. How about a large old fashioned enamel one, standing on exquisitely crafted legs and matching faucets to boot! Or, if you want a body massage, why not get a water jet tub. Just think about lying in one and letting the water massage those tired bones. Also stunning would be a corner tub with lots of room for two!

Let's not forget the "throne" - which has of course taken on he life of it's own. Nowadays toilets are an art from. They are available in variety of colors, matching your bath tub and vanity of course. Have you seen some of the seat covers in the stores? They are even filled with water and have fish floating around.

Yes, bathroom furniture has come into it's own. The evolution was swift and painless. It is a thrill to be able to walk into a showroom where the entire bathroom is exhibited. You immediately know that maybe it's time for you to upgrade yours! - 33393

How To Install A Garden Watering System ?

By Scott Rodgers

Adding a garden to a house is not at all a new concept. People generally make their houses beautiful by providing a small greenhouse therein. Presently, garden is every house is much more than to simply embellish the house. It is great way to minimize the effects of pollution. For that, a perfect watering system is required that can provide the garden an adequate amount of water.

Depending upon a deep well for that is quite insignificant. We need an appropriate water system to be installed so as to feed sufficient water for our garden.

There are a large variety of watering systems are available in the market. Choose the one that suits your requirement. As you know, the size of the home garden is small as compared to the large farms. And therefore, your requisition is to have a small water system.

Different plants and trees have different water needs. Some need a small quantity of water whereas some need more. Depending upon that, dig channels to irrigate them accordingly. Seek some advice from the expert. Decide for the place from where you will provide water to the plants. Install the plumbing pipes and fixtures consequently.

Next step is to dig a fresh water well depending upon the water requirement and the size of the garden. Also, dig a trench so as to accommodate the watering system. Place the system therein. Connect the system to an adequate water supply and test.

Instead of digging a well in the ground, you can also install a storage tank made up of bricks or concrete. Also, using a plastic tank to hold the water would be a great idea.

Numerous pipes and fixtures are joint together in the plumbing, all the joints must be thoroughly checked for any leakage or fissures. A careful inspection to this is very essential. The proper flow of water also be adjusted. Placing of watering system on the ground will be more convenient as it prevents digging of trenches etc.

Installing a watering system is totally a do- it- yourself project. No special techniques are required for it. But, if someone feels lack of knowledge, can call in a plumber to have it installed in an efficient manner. - 33393

Advice on Buying a Home Log Cabin

By Spencer Wilkins

How much you pay for log cabins depends not just on the size of the building but also what types of logs have been used to build it. There are some, which have been built using handcrafted logs, which are quite expensive, and there are those that have been built from milled logs and these types of cabins are a lot less expensive.

It is important therefore before you actually decide on getting such a cabin built you know the difference between milled and handcrafted logs. Generally, those that are milled have been prepared using either a sawmill, a lathe or a planer. This then ensures that each log will be cut to a specific profile or shape. As you will soon discover milled logs have a far more uniformed shape and size to them compared to handcrafted ones.

In addition, what you will often find that milled log cabins are ones where the wood has been either air or kiln dried. This enables the right amount of moisture to be extracted from the wood before they are used to build a home with.

Because the wood will have been either planed, sawn or lathed the surface of the logs will be smooth. Plus in many cases, they will also have a tongue and groove joints so actually putting the logs together is much easier. This means that building the cabin is a lot easier and will often take a lot less time to complete. However, if you want to retain that rustic look to your cabin the outer face of the log can retain its rough bark coating.

The most favoured types of woods, which are commonly used to produce milled logs for cabins, are pine, cedar, spruce or fir. The least expensive type of log cabin using the milled process are ones that are made from pine or spruce whilst those from cedar tend to be the most expensive.

As for handcrafted logs, these will have been prepared by being hand peeled using either a drawknife or through the use of water. The actual logs themselves when being prepared are green and will only have been cut and hauled a few days or weeks before. Unlike milled logs these are allowed to air dry only as kiln drying is a very expensive process, as these need to be dried whilst they are still their full lengths after cutting.

As well as pine and spruce being favorite trees for making handcrafted log cabins from other trees that are used are the Douglas fir, Oak, Juniper, Cyprus and Alpine Fir. The last tree mentioned is also known as a True Fir.

How much your log cabins cost not only depends on the way in which the logs have been prepared, but also the size of the property. Plus the amount of time and effort that it takes to actually construct the cabin. As mentioned handcrafted ones are more expensive than milled ones because the work is, more labour intensive and much larger pieces of wood are used. - 33393

Garden Walling - Why Build One And What To Use

By Patricia Connor

Have you ever seen garden walling and thought it enhanced the look of the garden? Have you ever wondered why a person would take the time to construct a wall around their garden? This article will take a brief look at some of the most common reasons people put walls around their gardens and what they use to construct them.

Some people use garden walls simply to dress up the look of their gardens. When the walling is used for cosmetic purposes, different types of oriental grasses are very common materials used to construct it. When the gardening season is over, and the garden dies out for the year, the walling is easy to remove. By clipping the grasses flush with the ground, the task will be complete. In addition, ornamental grasses, or your garden wall, will grow back the next season without having to be replanted.

Hedges are another good choice when it comes to constructing a wall around your garden. Many different kind of bushes can be used such as Rose of Sharon. Not only do these bushes grow rapidly, they bloom pink, white, or purple flowers while they are in season. Once all the flowers have bloomed and fell off, it is safe to trim back the hedge row, to keep your garden looking neat.

Gardeners also like to use holly bushes to form hedge rows for garden walling. Holly bushes tend to grow fast like the Rose of Sharon, only they do not bloom the pretty flowers. Instead, they remain green, and keep their leaves all year round. Certain times of the year Holly bushes have red berries that match well with their dark green leaves.

Ornamental grasses and hedge rows not only add to the beauty of a garden, they also act as good barriers. Sometimes the wind can damage fragile plants, causing gardeners to look for a solution. In locations where high winds are the norm, garden walling is almost necessary to protect any garden.

Bushes and ornamental grasses make great live walls for any type of garden. However, they are not always a gardeners best option. While they can be great wind barriers, they do not prevent water retention or keep deter animals from entry. Live garden walls are not the solution to these type of problems.

In order for garden walling to be effective in keeping animals out of the garden, it must be constructed with solid material. This material can include: fencing (steel or wooden), garden bricks, and wooden rail road ties.

In come cases, fencing will not work to keep animals out of your garden. Some animals will dig under the fencing, and some will climb over the fencing. The type of material you should use for your garden walling should depend on what type of animal you are trying to keep out. - 33393

A greenhouse will provide pleasure to the gardener who wants to be the first with fresh produce from his garden to the one who wants to grow exotic plants a greenhouse is a great project. To help in planning a greenhouse, consider the following:

Decide what kind of structure will meet your needs: portable or permanent. A primary determiner of the type structure you need is your climate. The more severe the weather conditions the sturdier the greenhouse needs to be. Next, think about if you need a foundation and if so, what will it be made of. A portable greenhouse probably won't require a foundation, but a permanent structure most likely will. Whichever structure style you choose should be easy to construct and use materials that are easily available.

Materials used for construction will depend on whether you are more concerned about the cost or appearance of your greenhouse.

For wood construction choose either cedar, cypress, redwood or pressure treated lumber. Other lumber would have to be painted in order to protect the structure, soil and plants from possible contamination from preservatives on the lumber.

Any plant will grow in a greenhouse as long as the conditions are as near as possible to those in its native environment. To achieve this you may have to install heating and lighting systems. If you use these systems you will also need a back-up system in case of a power outage.

Location of a greenhouse is very important. It needs to have utilities available, good drainage and good sun exposure.

The greenhouse doesn't have to be large in order for you to enjoy it. Be creative in ways to maximize the space. - 33393

A Guide On How To Install Tiles

By Scott Rodgers

If you are planning to change the tiles of your bathroom then it is not a difficult task to do. All it wants is proper use of tools and knowledge of using them. There are countless choices of tile designs and types that you can use to update your bathroom. Two most common choices are glass tiles and ceramic tiles. If you want to install a glass tile then you just need to insure that they are rated for floor use.

Tools used in this process are- cutters, tile nippers, grout, a large sponge, grout spacers, and a notched trowel. However, for sheet tiles grout spacers are not required and they can be easily installed because they have ready to install mosaics.

Before putting new tiles on floor you need to carefully remove old tiles from your bathroom. However, this is little difficult to do. After removing old tiles from bathroom floor, make sure the surface is smooth and clean. You can use grease cleaners to ensure there is no grease on the floor.

For having the estimate of number of tiles required for the job, you can measure the size of space. While purchasing tiles, always take some extra pieces as tiles with same color is little difficult to be available in future.

All the molds and fixtures like toilet, sinks are required to be removed from the surface. Take a subfloor (green board or cement board), fix it on the floor and remember that the floor should be leveled.

Now you can start fixing the tiles on floor. It is preferred to start fitting from the longest wall side as it makes your task convenient. Use rubber mallet for tapping as it fixes tiles well onto the floor. After that, grout spacer is used to maintain equal space between the tiles. If you need small tile for any place then you can cut a tile with tile cutter.

After fixing all the tiles, you can leave it for one day and next day with the help of trowel fill grout in between adjacent tiles. Remove extra grout with a sponge and run a mop over tiles. Then leave it for a week so that tiles get strongly attached to the floor.

After a week your bathroom floor is perfectly ready to be used, you just need to put all the fixtures at their place. If some tiles are left, you should keep them for future use. You can now enjoy the new bathroom floor. - 33393
