Why You Should Consider Special Event Florists

By Adriana Noton

If you're planning a wedding, anniversary or other large party, it's wise to take some time and shop around for florists. Not all florists are the same. While your local flower shop may make beautiful arrangements that make you drool, they may not be a good choice for your party or reception. For any event that requires more than six arrangements, you should really look into hiring a special event florist.

This type of florist is one that does large events exclusively. Some will even limit themselves to resort parties or weddings only. They generally do not have a retail shop where you can walk in and buy an arrangement or gift. But why should that be such a huge advantage over your local florist?

One reason is space. Usually event florists set up shop in a large warehouse or other big space. This may not seem like a big deal, but let's say you have fifty tables at your event. The space available to a specialty florist means that containers can be prepped and laid out well beforehand. Then, a couple hours before your party, florists can work quickly and efficiently.

A small shop, by contrast, has limited space. Imagine you have, say, fifty arrangements ordered. In a regular flower shop they will have to start early and work longer to get the job done. Then where will they store the finished arrangements? Will they be stacked and crushed? Or, worse yet, will they get distracted by the retail traffic and be late bringing your flowers? As you can see, something as simple as inadequate space can cause many problems down the line.

Refrigerator space is also important. You may have noticed that when you see loose flowers or finished arrangements, they are in coolers. This is because flowers look better and last longer when they are kept cool. When the florists orders flowers from the grower, they arrive in large boxes. Once the box arrives, it's critical to take the best care of them right away. This can determine how long they last.

Because cooler space is limited in a small shop, your flowers may have to sit in a back room, maybe for days. A specialty florist, however, is used to handling large volumes of flowers. They probably have more than enough cooler space and can get your flowers in optimum conditions immediately. This means they'll be fresher and last longer for your guests to enjoy!

Delivery is a challenge for a big order. Flowers can be fragile. Getting them safely to their destination takes specialized equipment and knowledge. Instead of cramming the arrangements into a small delivery van designed for just a few, specialty florists have systems and equipment designed to handle this kind of job.

One final advantage you may want to consider is that many event florists rent equipment. They may have a great variety of containers in large quantities. They may also have other decorative items you need like pillars, mirrors, and candle holders. Small shops, on the other hand, will have to order your containers, or will have a really limited selection of rentals.

So you can see the advantages of special event florists! Find them by checking your local business directory, or try a bridal fair. Even if you're not planning a wedding, specialty florists in your area will be at bridal fairs. Just make sure the one you like is not a wedding specialist only. Good luck with your party! - 33393
