How To Remove Moss From Your Roof ?

By Scott Rodgers

Generally, the hot and humid climate leads to certain problems concerned with your home maintenance. One of them is the accumulation of unwanted plants (moss) on your roof. They not only dampen the surface of your roof but also pave way for an easy penetration of water into the interior walls and ceilings.

The roots of the moss act as an easy passage for the water to enter into your walls and ceilings.

In order to eliminate moss from your roof, you can go either the eco-friendly way or the harmful way. In case you want to get rid of that dense cover of moss as soon as possible, the household bleach can do the job for you. However, the harmful nature of the bleach prompts you to avoid using this chemical in the first place. The bleach dampens and weakens your roof surface and also poses a corrosion risk to gutters and downspouts.

The other way takes you to a manual cleaning off task that may be burdensome but very safe indeed.

Arrange the necessary supplies that would assist you during the task. Take a long-handled brush, a garden rake, a wheelbarrow and an extension ladder.

Once all the necessary items are arranged, move out and make the ladder stand firmly on the ground. Make sure that the area on which the ladder stands is not wet and saturated and instead, choose a hard and rigid one. Rest it against the exterior wall such that it reaches the top of the roof quite comfortably. Climb up the ladder and observe the spread of the moss on your roof. This would determine your next course of action. A smaller spread of moss means that even a typical brush would do the job. On the other hand, a larger spread points to the possible employment of the garden rake as well.

For the more rigid and thick moss, use the back end of the rake to preform the uprooting operation. Once the moss looks detached, clean off the area with the help of a long-handled brush. Make all the residual fall on the ground over the piece of cloth. If you are not in a comfortable position to drop the moss on that particular piece of cloth then you can causally throw it on the ground as well.

Once the roof area looks clean, come down and rake off the moss from the ground and collect it in a wheelbarrow. Dump it to a local garbage bin and finish off the task. - 33393
