What Flowers Mean To People

By Jenny Coleman

The message conveyed by flowers is understood by all. Flowers are used by people of different societies to convey many feelings like caring, happiness, sorrow, and apology. When we cannot find words, we can convey our feelings beautifully through flowers. However, various flowers convey different meanings. Every flower has a different message and you need to comprehend what it conveys before you give it to any one.

The practise of giving meanings to flowers is termed as floriography. The occasion and the intended message assume prime significance in the Western nations when people consider gifting flowers to others.

Red roses are universal symbols of eternal love, while pink ones denote friendship and white ones symbolize purity. You can make amends with an estranged comrade with a bouquet of white tulips, which stand for forgiveness. Lilies are classy and stylish and they convey royalty and celebration. You can wish your sick friend a quick recovery by giving him or her a bouquet of Yarrow, while a bunch of Azalea can be given to a friend to wish him all the best on his new initiative or endeavour. However, not all flowers have positive messages. A case in point is a bouquet of lavender blossoms, which generally shows mistrust.

Lovers can convey their myriad emotions by selecting various flowers for different occasions. Different romantic feelings can be expressed by a number of flowers like Daisies and Violets.

You should keep in mind another point before giving flowers to a loved one. Different meanings have been assigned by various cultures to different flowers. If the person you are presenting the flowers to belongs to a different nation or culture, you should first know what importance the flower bears in that specific nation or culture before gifting it to him or her. Drawing an entirely negative response from the recipient is one thing that you would definitely not like. - 33393
