Use Of Bathroom Extractor Fans

By Scott Rodgers

Bathroom is a closed and moist place. This area essentially needs a fan which can extract the moist and stale air out of it. Exhaust fans are used in most of the bathrooms to control moisture and provide proper ventilation.

Bathroom extractor fan can be of two types: propeller or axial fan and the centrifugal fan. Propeller or axial fan is the same as the regular fan we use in our homes. It circulates and moves the air by circular movements. There is no need of large pressure in moving it. These fans are inexpensive and very efficient.

The other type of fan is the centrifugal fans which are not accepted as the axial fan for the bathrooms. The centrifugal force mostly used to draw the air out of the radial vanes in the plates. So it is easy to fit these fans on your own as it comes with the fitting instructions.

An extractor fan when switched on starts extracting the stale air out. These fans have blades or impellers attached to the electric motor. When the motor rotates, it draws out the air and throws out of the grille.

In two places the axial fan and the centrifugal fan can be installed. Either you can place it on the window or you can mount it on the wall. If you are mounting it on the window then it is necessary to make a hole in the glass. A particular tool is needed for cutting the holes in the glass. For mounting it on the wall, you need to have a drill to make the hole in the wall. It may take long time for drilling, depending upon the thickness of the wall. This is going to be a very tough job as much pressure is required for drilling.

There are also some fans which have automatic cut-off switches. It switches off automatically when the moisture in the bathroom decreases, and turns on again when the humidity increases.

If you wish that your fan should keep working at an optimum capacity then remember to maintain it daily.

A fuse-spur is connected in most of the extractor fans which is normally fitted outside the bathroom fitting. In order to work properly, the extractor fan should be placed perfectly. The location should be chosen in such a way that the extractor fan will replace the fresh air by drawing the stale air. - 33393
