Tips On Installing A Ridge Vent

By Scott Rodgers

To maintain the air flow within the spaces of your home, a vent is must. Some households don't take such consideration in mind during the construction of their home and repent later. The vents keep the air circulating within the home such that the exhausted air is always replaced by the fresh air.

Those households that are not equipped with the essential ridge vent need not to worry. The vents can be installed even on an existing roof. Though, it is always in the favor of the schema of the home to install a vent during the development of the house only.

In order to put up a ridge vent on your already rigidified roof, take the primary suggestion from an expert only. The assignment requires a handy supervision of an expert but can be accomplished by even a novice. Arrange the necessary tools and supplies beforehand. A circular saw, a wood chisel, pry bar tool etc. are the common tools among the other things. You may also need some shingles to envelop the ridge cap.

Install an extension ladder on the ground firmly and climb up to the roof. Observe the spread of the roof where you're supposed to plant the ridge vent. Grab a pry bar and pull up the shingles one by one. Make sure that you don't damage the shingles while detaching as they would be employed later.

Once the bare sheathing area is exposed, pick up a bright piece of chalk and mark down the length of required spread. Keep the specifications of the manufacturer in mind while determining the work area. Take the marked line to the end of the roof. Though, keep the end point of the marked line a bit away from the edge of the roof.

Bring in the circular saw and the wood chisel. Set the blade of the saw prior to the cutting operation such that the underlying rafters are not altered. Cut the marked area with the circular saw and use a wood chisel to cross cut the setting. Pull up the sheathing with the help of a pry bar and make area available for the new vent installation.

Place the newly purchased ridge vent on the concerned area and attach it to the rafters. Use long galvanized nails only to bind the setup.

Place the ridge cap over the vent and finish off the task by shingling the area. - 33393
